<p>It’s more apparent than ever before that meeting future needs of humanity calls for immediate integration of renewable energies into the global energy production and distribution infrastructure. To successfully complete this transition, it is necessary to reinvent the architecture of the distribution network as well as the way of producing, storing and consuming energy.</p>
<p>Imeon Energy has developed a revolutionary Virtual Power Plant able to be seamlessly weaved into the existing power grids in order to partially replace centralized energy production plants. Imeon VPP Management Platform remotely supervises Imeon hybrid inverters allowing users to exchange the energy produced by their solar plants and allowing grid operators to benefit from the Grid Assist features of the Platform. The VPP Management Platform handles the aggregation of multiple Imeon inverters with their dedicated storage, grouped together into manageable clusters. <p>The efficient use of energy generated by the solar array and optimization of battery lifetime are the two key factors which impact the profitability of your solar power plant. In other words, the better a solar installation performs, the sooner the investor, the user or a company, gets his investment back and start making money, of its solar system. It is easy to understand that an installation that performs in an inefficient way will produce less kilowatt-hours during the day and therefore its impact on the energy bill will be smaller. Similarly, any replacement of the battery bank due to usual wear and tear should be avoided since its contributing to the overall investment in the solar system.</p>
<p>To improve battery lifetime and to raise the performance of the solar installation Imeon has developed Smart Load application which involves using Imeon’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze past solar production, the weather forecast and as well as site’s energy consumption patterns in order to automatically select and turn on certain loads at best time, using Imeon’s built-in relay or external relay switches. In practical example, the Imeon AI will know how much energy your PV array will produce during the day, how much time the system will require to recharge the battery and will know that if it switches on the washing machine at a certain time it will be possible to power it exclusively with solar production. It’s essential to understand that powering loads using only energy coming directly from the panels, without involving the batteries, is the most efficient way of using the solar energy since it eliminates losses related to electrical conversion and chemical storage. It’s simply cheaper. What’s more the battery which does not need to be discharged to provide power to the washing machine during the evening will simply last longer.</p>

<p>IMEON ENERGY&#8217;s development teams have designed the BatTime Predictor application to give users information about how long the battery will be able to power the equipped building before it needs to be recharged.</p>
<p>If, at first glance, the principle may seem simple since we all have a battery life indicator on our Smartphone, the calculation is much more complex for a home because its consumption changes constantly as electrical appliances start and stop &#8230;</p>
<p>In order to provide an indication that takes this last point into consideration, the IMEON inverter takes into account data from the &#8220;Forecast Consumption&#8221; application which, thanks to artificial intelligence algorithms, makes a forecast of the building&#8217;s consumption for the next twelve hours.</p>
<p>By cross-referencing the battery state of charge and consumption forecast data, the IMEON inverter is able to provide information about the remaining autonomy.</p>

<p>The lifetime of the energy storage coupled to the inverter is defined by the number of charge and discharge cycles the battery is subjected to. Having feedback concerning the wear of the battery might incentify the user to adapt the energy consumption patterns and the related use of the battery in order to optimize its lifetime. An example of such pattern modification may be shifting the on-times of certain appliances to peak production periods, in order to have them powered by renewable energy coming directly from the photovoltaic panels rather than from the battery. This application will be particularly useful for lead-acid batteries which require periodic maintenance and support a lower number of cycles than the lithium batteries, or the off-grid sites which require constant power supply since it allows the users to anticipate and plan their battery replacement well in advance.</p>
